Notre dimanche au Québec

Vieux-Porte
Vieux-Porte, as Quebec’s Old City Port is known, is a key tourist attraction to what was once a bustling area for ship merchants transporting supplies to the new settlers of the town. The Old Port was once one of the five biggest ports in the world and is still considered a popular cruise destination. Today the port serves as a delightful place to visit and to enjoy the picture-perfect views of the river and the surrounding Old City, as well as the Laurentian Mountains in the background.

We began the day by walking to the nearby Marche Vieux Pont which is basically a farmer's market.  We picked up a few things.

Then we drove about 30 minutes north of Quebec City to the Basilica of St. Anne de Beaupre, a large shrine recommended to us by Sister Kathleen.

We headed back toward Quebec stopping at Mormency Falls, a large waterfall on the Mormency River.  Its a national historic site in Quebec and there are many ways to see it.  We chose the cable car to take us near the top of the falls.  You then go over the falls o a suspension bridge.  Click for video from the top of the falls.

I walked over that flimsy bridge

The yellow cast of the falls comes from the high iron content of the riverbed. On summer nights, the plunging water and its surrounding cove is illuminated.

We came home in the early afternoon and took a rest before going out later in the evening.  The weather is just perfect now so it was a nice night.  We ate at a small cafe on rue St. Paul that specializes in pizza.  Ida had a salad and I was daring and had CUISSE DE CANARD CONFITE.

Just as we were finished eating, we heard a large bang and turned around to see that a satellite had smashed onto the hood of this car.   Lucky that we are walking everywhere.

While strolling we accidentally came upon the Fresque des Quebecois which we did not find the other day.

More shopping so Ida can spend all of the Canadian money.

Back to our hotel for the last night in Canada.
